Srinagar, Sep 16 (KNO): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police on Tuesday said to have arrested two drug peddlers in Handwara & Pulwama and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In Handwara, a police party from Police Post Magam at a checkpoint established at Magam chowk, intercepted a suspicious person, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
During the search, four grams of heroin-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Amir Ayoub Khan, son of Mohd Ayoub Khan, resident of Marathgam, Handwara and was subsequently arrested. In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 211/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Handwara and further investigation has been taken up.
Moreover, in Pulwama, J&K Police foiled a drug smuggling bid at Newa and seized 120 grams of heroin-like substance from a notorious woman drug peddler identified as Sheikh Maroofa, wife of Sheikh Tasaduq, resident of Kathidarwaza Mumkhan, Rainawari, Srinagar, the statement reads.
Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 217/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is underway. Notably, her husband, Sheikh Tasaduq, has already been detained under PIT NDPS by Srinagar Police.
